Glamorgan bounced back from their disappointing 9-wicket loss at Worcester last Sunday, to beat Northants convincingly today, and at the same time, qualify for the quarterfinals of the Benson and Hedges Cup.  Northants won the toss and put Glamorgan in.   Opening bowlers Malcolm and Cousins pegged Croft and Elliott back, but they stayed there and built up a slow, but worthwhile, opening stand.  A couple of quick wickets fell, with both openers going, but good partnerships between Maynard and Powell, and then James and Dale put up the Glamorgan total and run-rate.   The wickets fell away at the end with some confusing run-outs and swings at the ball, but Glamorgan set Northants a tricky 239, which on the pitch, was always going to be difficult.

Northants got away quickly in their innings, with big Australian Matt Hayden scoring quickly.  A couple of wickets fell around him, but if he was still there, anything was possible.  But, after hitting a big six off Croft, he took one swing too many, Croft deceived him, and he was clean bowled for 67.  Northants never got back from that, and were never in contention after young Graeme Swann departed for a quick fire 28.    The wickets continued to fall after that, and not even a big 6 from number 11 Devon Malcolm could save them.  They fell 39 runs short in the end.
